The West Fargo Park District is seeking enthusiastic and experienced Skating Instructors for both hockey and figure skating to teach youth ages 3 to Adult. If you have a passion for ice skating and enjoy working with children and adults, this is a fantastic opportunity to help others develop their skating skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Position Overview
As a Skating Instructor, you will lead and assist classes for youth and adult participants. This includes supervising participants on the ice, demonstrating skating skills, assisting with planning lessons, and evaluating participants' skills. Instructors will ensure a safe and enjoyable environment that fosters learning and promotes the sport of skating. The WFPD follows the Learn to Skate USA program, and instructors will need to complete the certification online once hired (WFPD will cover the certification cost).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and assist ice-skating classes for youth ages 3 and up, as well as adults.
  • Supervise participants on the ice, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
  • Demonstrate skating skills and techniques to help participants improve.
  • Assist with planning lesson plans and adapting them as needed to meet participant needs.
  • Evaluate and provide feedback on participants' skills to support their development.
  • Promote the sport of skating in a fun, positive, and encouraging way.
  • Complete the Learn to Skate Certification online upon hiring (cost covered by WFPD).
  • Serve as a substitute instructor if needed.

Work Schedule

  • Summer: June 3–September 3, Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5:15 PM to 8:20 PM.
  • Fall/Winter: September 10–March 6, Wednesdays from 5:45 PM to 8:00 PM & Saturdays from 8:15 AM to 10:30 AM.
    Hours are flexible, and there are also opportunities to work as a substitute instructor.

Qualifications

  • Skills: Strong communication and teaching skills; ability to work with children and adults in a fun and supportive manner.
  • Experience: Previous ice-skating experience is required. Experience with teaching skating or leading lessons is preferred.
  • Knowledge: A solid understanding of ice-skating skills, including hockey and figure skating techniques.
  • Certification: Must complete the Learn to Skate Certification online upon hire (cost covered by WFPD). This certification needs to be renewed yearly.
